- Let faucets near exterior walls drip to prevent freezing water from causing pipes to burst. A stream of water is not necessary.
- Leave cabinet doors under sinks open.
- The warm air in your house will help pipes from freezing.
- Turn on the heat.
- Set the thermostat to no lower than 55 degrees.
- Close off unneeded rooms and place towels or rags in cracks under the doors.
- Have a flashlight and extra batteries available in case power goes out.
- Protect temperature-sensitive plants by covering or bringing indoors.
